Abstract

Nutrition and socioeconomic status play an important role in student success in the classroom. Understanding how these factors impact academic performance can lead to healthier learning environments. Using a literature review, the first objective was to analyze the physiological and cognitive effects of nutrition on the body and how these effects influence cognitive abilities and learning processes. The second objective was to consider how socioeconomic status and the implications on childhood nutrition impact academic outcomes. Finally, this project aimed to evaluate existing programs that provide students with access to nutritious meals and looked to consider potential reforms or expansions aimed at increasing equity and ensuring all students receive the nutritional support they require for academic success.
