Parkinson’s Disease is a prevalent disease that is becoming more frequent. We need to understand this disease to be able to find a cure for it, or at least a better way to help delay the onset of this disease. A dopamine deficiency is one of the leading causes of Parkinson’s Disease. Therefore understanding how dopamine is reduced, will help to identify the different types of treatment that can be used to stimulate dopamine production. Multiple treatments have been studied that include: distinct types of chemical treatments, neurological stimulation and exercise therapies. While exercise therapies did not prevent the onset of Parkinson’s, it did help to alleviate the symptoms. The chemical treatments such as L-Dopa and the neurological stimulation like Subthalamic Nucleus Deep Brain Stimulation have shown to delay the onset and improve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. In conclusion there are many treatments that can help to delay this disease, but there is no specific treatment that stops Parkinson’s from occurring altogether.
